Final Fantasy Crisis Core Fusion List Part I

April 24th, 2009

Here’s the Part I of Fusion List for the Final Fantasy Crisis Core Game. This section contains the formulas for all the Materia that can be created through fusion.

About the chart:
- Like the Materia List, the order of the Materia are listed as they appear in the Materia menu (after to-arranging).
- (M) indicates Master level. In an equation where there is only one (M), please note that EITHER Materia can be at Master level.

Worms: Open Warrfare 2

February 25th, 2009
Worms: Open Warrfare 2

Worms: Open Warfare 2 continues the series’ legacy of delivering fantastic strategy gameplay that’s both turn-based and side-scrolling. Players are once again placed in the shoes of fantasy-themed worms. Campaign, Puzzles, Time Attack and Training make up the list of single-player modes, with Quick Game being offered for entertainment on a single-level basis.Campaign is the primary mode where you’ll battle the most lethal worms in numerous historical and fantasy settings. The costumes, backdrops and whatnot are just for added fun. Gameplay is still this series’ number-one focus. The power bar and trajectory crosshair system – which lets you aim weapons vertically and horizontally and determine how forcefully they’ll be shot – is back and works great on PSP. The widescreen gives players the best gameplay perspective possible, but you’ll still have to zoom out and move the camera around (using the thumbstick) to view every part of the game’s massive stages.

Puzzle might sound like a peculiar mode to have in a Worms game, but it’s actually very clever – and very entertaining. Rather than battle as normal, you’re asked to complete an objective in confinement or with unusual requirements. This really has to be seen and played, so I’ll refrain from giving too much away. But I must talk about one of the puzzles. You win by arriving at the exit point, which can only be reached by launching your worm down an ice bank. There is no slithering in this stage – you are stuck to the ice like glue. To move you must plant a mine. It’ll explode and launch your worm into the air. However, you won’t go anywhere if the worm is pointed in the wrong direction when the mine goes off. Thus, you’re going to want aim your worm away from the direction you wish to travel, as you’ll be thrust backwards upon the explosion.

Players will want to take full advantage of the Landscape (level) Editor. The editor options are straightforward and do not require a tutorial, but their depth is virtually unheard of in handheld gaming. You can shape the level in any way you desire. Just pick the draw tool and go crazy. Something tells me this feature works a lot better on the DS, where you can actually draw on the screen. But the PSP’s thumbstick is very capable. Unless you’re a perfectionist, you won’t need patience to design a cool stage.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming to DS and PSP

February 7th, 2009
Considering that another all-action monstrous metal Transformers blockbuster is due for release this summer, it’s little surprise that Activision has announced it will once again step into place as the custodian of the game tie-in.

The significant news however is that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is in development for both DS and PSP (alongside five console versions - and no doubt a Glu-published mobile version too).

Activision’s in-house experts at Vicarious Visions will be developing the DS version; and as with the previous Transformers: Autobots and Decepticons game, there will be two releases depending on if you want to play the good or the bad campaigns. Savage Entertainment will reprise its PSP duties from where it left off with Transformers: The Game.

As for the overall premise, this time the ongoing war between the Autobots and Decepticons will climax in Egypt over the Great Pyramid of Giza. Returning characters include the likes of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Ratchet, while new forms are rumoured to include the multi-parted Devastator and The Fallen.

New Final Fantasy XIII Trailer Released

February 6th, 2009
Now that the countdown on the official Final Fantasy XIII website is over, Square Enix unveiled a new trailer there for the highly anticipated RPG. It’s not just some lame ass teaser with logos and brief cut scene clips, either - it’s got gameplay footage, too.

Not to say that the cut scene clips don’t look great, too. There’s enough robots and ultraviolence here to sate even the most jaded fanboy. It certainly succeeds at the basic motive of a trailer, which is to get you pumped up about a project.

Unfortunately, it’ll be a long time before we get our hands on this game in North America or Europe. According to Square Enix President Yoichi Wada, we probably won’t get it until April 2010 at the earliest. It will be released for PS3 in Japan this year but will appear on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 once it finally makes its debut in the West.

Pervy Golf Game Gets PSP Port

January 10th, 2009

Pangya Golf is a Japanese title developed by Tecmo and currently available on the PC and Wii console. The game’s major claim to fame, apart from being a mediocre golf sim, is that it allows gamers to dress their avatars in any number of skanky outfits before teeing off. In that sense, the game is kind of like the Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball of Golf games. The title even features a lovely tropical island minimap, where players can access a variety of training mini games and purchase new outfits for their virtual avatar. Winning matches awards the player with more of the game’s virtual currency, called Pang, which is used to unlock additional in-game content. For better gameplay and a more realistic apprach to golf on the PSP, readers re encouraged to check out our Hot Shots: Open Tee review.

Still, Pangya on the PSP might surprise us. One of the things that made the original PC version of the game so popular in Asia was its great multiplayer features. The PSP port will bring some of those back, in the form of 8-player match ups over local ad-hoc connection. The PSP version of the title will be called Fantasy Golf Panya Portable, and it will arrive on April 9th in Japan for the price of $56 USD. So far there is no word on a North American release.
